Referendum

The Referendum is a form of direct decision-making of voters in the exercise of state authority in issues defined by the Croatian Constitution (state referendum) and issues falling within the purview of local and regional self-government units (local referendum).

Other forms of direct decision-making and polling of voters in the exercise of state authority and local (regional) self-government are: advisory referendum, local citizens' assembly and citizens' remonstrance.

The Croatian Parliament and the President of the Republic of Croatia may call a referendum.

The Croatian Parliament may call a referendum on any proposal to amend the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia, bill or any other issue falling within its purview. The Croatian Parliament shall call a referendum when so requested by ten percent of the total electorate of the Republic of Croatia.
